Senior Design/Development Engineer (Fiber Optic Connectors)

Location: Hickory, North Carolina, United States. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Design and develop fiber-optic connectors and components using injection-molded parts, machined components, and 3D-printed prototypes.
• Plan and lead new product development and qualification projects, including schedules, resources, status reporting, and presentations.
• Collaborate with R&D technicians on testing, data analysis, documentation, and design and process improvements.
• Coordinate with Product Management, Development, Applications Engineering, Sales, and Manufacturing to deliver cost-effective connector solutions.
• Develop supplier relationships and provide technical support on connector design, testing, and system performance.
• Prepare technical publications and patent documentation, and validate designs using gauging, vision measurement, microscopy, and PC-based tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in a related engineering role, including 3–5 years in the fiber-optic or communications systems industry.
• Ability to work independently, lead projects, and mentor technicians and engineers.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with CAD software and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with fiber-optic or copper assemblies, connectors, and testing.
• Understanding of statistical analysis methods.
• Exposure to patent preparation and technical publications.
