TL;DR
New Product Introduction Engineer, Optics and Cables (Optical Hardware): Owning the technical lifecycle of high-speed optics and cable components from system design through factory execution with an accent on optical qualification, manufacturing standards, and supplier quality. Focus on defining cleaning and inspection protocols, auditing vendors, qualifying 400G+ transceivers and cables, and transitioning complex optical production to contract manufacturers.

Location: Santa Clara, California; hybrid work arrangement. Approximately 30% travel is expected.

Company

hirify.global develops high-speed networking systems built around cutting-edge ASICs and advanced optical interconnect technologies.

What you will do

  • Own the technical product lifecycle for optics and cable components from system design through high-volume manufacturing.
  • Define optical integrity, qualification, cleaning, handling, inspection, and reliability standards for factory production.
  • Author assembly and manufacturing procedures for fiber trays, flyover cables, and Co-Packaged Optics architectures.
  • Translate link-quality requirements such as BER and optical performance into device- and system-level qualification tests.
  • Lead supplier evaluations and technical audits covering laser burn-in, fiber termination, cleanroom discipline, and production controls.
  • Approve optical performance reports during NPI and provide final technical sign-off before shipment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in hardware engineering or optical product engineering.
  • Experience with high-speed 400G+ transceivers and cables, high-speed switches, and transceiver architectures including QSFP-DD and OSFP.
  • Expert knowledge of MPO, LC, and EBO optical connectors and fiber physics.
  • Experience auditing vendors, defining factory-level optical test methodologies, and transitioning complex production lines to overseas contract manufacturers.
  • Proficiency with optical scopes, bit error rate testers, automated fiber inspection systems, and product fixturing.
  • BS or MS degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

  • Experience evaluating Co-Packaged Optics, Near Packaged Optics, Active Copper, and next-generation DSP technologies.
  • Experience implementing manufacturing traceability, quality dashboards, and reliability reporting.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work spans early NPI engineering, supplier management, and contract manufacturing execution.
  • Opportunity to establish rigorous factory processes that prevent optical failures before customer deployment.
  • Responsibility for developing strategic supplier partnerships and advancing next-generation interconnect density.
  • Approximately 30% travel to support vendor and manufacturing activities.
