TL;DR
Principal Hardware Engineer: High Speed Mixed Signal Designer (Quantum Computing): Designing and deploying custom mixed-signal electronic assemblies for neutral-atom quantum computer control systems with an accent on high-speed analog and RF front ends, multi-gigabit interfaces, and low-noise data-converter design. Focus on architecting, simulating, prototyping, bringing up, and validating complex FPGA- and data-converter-based hardware while driving manufacturability and mentoring engineers.

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; hybrid workplace

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annually, plus annual bonus and company equity

Company

hirify.global develops quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms.

What you will do

  • Define system architectures for quantum-computer control instruments, including analog and RF front ends, signal conditioning, data converters, power, clocking, and monitoring circuitry.
  • Research, simulate, prototype, evaluate, and optimize high-speed mixed-signal front ends for lasers and actuators.
  • Design PCB-level multi-gigabit transceiver interfaces of 10+ Gbps between FPGAs and data converters, including channel analysis, signal integrity, and crosstalk validation.
  • Create schematics and board-level designs in Altium Designer, then lead fabrication, bring-up, verification, and testing.
  • Collaborate with quantum, FPGA, firmware, and software engineers to define requirements and validate control-system hardware.
  • Manage technical relationships with electronics manufacturers and suppliers, drive Design for Manufacturing strategies, and mentor hardware engineers.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of relevant postgraduate experience in board-level analog and digital circuit design.
  • Experience across the full hardware design cycle, from architecture and schematic capture through PCB layout, fabrication, and board bring-up.
  • Experience with mixed-signal design, high-speed buses, complex ICs such as FPGAs and processors, multiple power supplies, and high-speed memory interfaces.
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum and logic analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Ability to use scripting languages such as Python for data acquisition, instrument control, and automated hardware testing.

Nice to have

  • RF design or software-defined radio experience.
  • Multi-gigabit serial transceiver design, evaluation, equalization, and IBIS-AMI modeling.
  • High-speed memory and analog/digital I/O experience, including connector and cable characterization.
  • Linux experience and familiarity with MicroTCA, PXIe, or similar pluggable instrument standards.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work with scientists, engineers, and business professionals in a fast-growing startup environment.
  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents.
  • Unlimited paid time off, 401(k) company matching, disability coverage, FSA, dependent care benefits, and life insurance.
  • Drinks, snacks, and catered team lunches are provided in the office.
