Director, People Operations (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Mateo, California; Washington, DC; San Diego, California; or Dallas, Texas, United States

Salary: $160,000–$250,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees

What you will do

• Define and execute the People Operations vision, operating model, and multi-year roadmap across interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and employee lifecycle operations.
• Lead and scale the People Operations function, including team structure, capacity planning, KPIs, service quality, and operating rhythms.
• Transform People Operations into a self-service-first, AI-enabled support model with automation, case management, knowledge management, and digital support channels.
• Own workforce lifecycle processes from candidate logistics and interview coordination through employee changes and offboarding.
• Partner with HRIS, Payroll, Finance, IT, Legal, Talent Acquisition, and Digital teams on technology, compliance, data governance, and internal controls.
• Establish dashboards and reporting frameworks, monitor SLAs and operational health, and drive continuous improvement and change adoption.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 15+ years of progressive HR or People Operations experience in complex or high-growth environments.
• 7+ years leading People Operations or HR Shared Services teams.
• Experience designing and scaling shared-services and service-delivery models, including automation and AI-enabled solutions.
• Strong expertise in employee lifecycle operations, compliance, data governance, HRIS partnerships, KPIs, SLAs, and operational reporting.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or MBA in a related field.
• Experience in technology, aerospace, defense, or other high-growth industries.
• Experience with AI-enabled service models, knowledge management systems, UKG, Ashby, or Jira.
• Background in service management, digital transformation, Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or ITIL.
• Experience supporting multi-state or global workforce operations, or relevant professional certifications.
