Lead Software Developer (Backend)

Location: Remote from Portugal

Salary: €55K annually, with potential additional bonuses, commissions, equity, or other incentives.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services for billing and subscription systems.
• Lead technical design, architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Improve reliability, observability, performance, and maintainability of production systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and delivery.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong backend development experience with Go, Java, Python, PHP, or a similar language.
• Solid understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and data modeling.
• Experience building and operating reliable production systems.
• Strong communication, collaboration, ownership, and technical leadership skills.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools with sound judgment around quality, security, and production readiness.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Go.
• Experience with billing, payments, subscriptions, or financial systems.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, MongoDB, React, or PHP.
• Experience with observability, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Technical leadership or mentoring experience.
