Lead Backend Engineer (PHP/Go)

Location: Vilnius, Lithuania; workplace: Hybrid

Salary: €6,500–€7,300 gross per month, with flexibility based on skills and competencies.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and support the development team while remaining hands-on with software development.
• Design and develop scalable, reliable, maintainable systems with clean, tested, and documented code.
• Own the development lifecycle from research and technical design through deployment and production support.
• Drive technical decisions, review code and architecture, and establish engineering standards.
• Build, review, and maintain microservices optimized for performance, stability, security, and scalability.
• Contribute to technical decisions in an early-stage, fast-growing project.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of PHP, preferably Symfony, plus experience or interest in Golang and Node.js.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including query optimization and debugging.
• Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, MySQL clusters, GitLab CI, Redis, and automated testing.
• Ability to guide technical decisions, review designs and code, mentor developers, and maintain high engineering standards.
• Clear communication, ownership, knowledge sharing, and a collaborative approach.

Nice to have

• Previous formal or informal experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating developers.
• Experience with DevOps practices, deployment pipelines, and automation.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies such as TypeScript and React.
• Playful communication style and preference for a non-corporate environment.
