Backend PHP Engineer (Traveltech)

Location: Remote, but must be based in Spain or the United Kingdom

Salary: £74,800–£107,500 (UK) / €58,000–€83,500 (Spain)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain robust backend services capable of handling high-volume global traffic.
• Implement functional APIs and optimize query performance for a seamless user experience.
• Contribute to a modular, resilient, and service-oriented architecture.
• Write clean, maintainable code using SOLID principles, OOP best practices, and design patterns.
• Integrate asynchronous processes using queues and event-driven patterns.
• Participate in a paid on-call rotation to maintain 24/7 service reliability.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of professional backend development experience with PHP.
• Proven experience with Laravel or a strong background in Symfony.
• Solid knowledge of SQL, including database indexing and query optimization.
• Ability to effectively use AI tools to prompt, validate, and iterate for faster software development.
• Familiarity with Docker and basic CI/CD pipeline troubleshooting.
• Fluent English for professional communication in a remote team.
• Must be based in Spain or the UK.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Redis, Memcached, and AWS Cloud services.
• Experience with SaaS or Traveltech solutions.
• Knowledge of eSIM or GSMA technologies.
• Interest in distributed systems and horizontal scaling.
