TL;DR
Tech Lead Engineer (PHP / Symfony & AWS): Leading technical delivery while building and maintaining backend services and REST APIs for an EdTech project with an accent on PHP/Symfony development, AWS modernization, and production reliability. Focus on designing MySQL schemas and optimizing queries, orchestrating AI coding agents, and resolving complex issues across containerized and serverless infrastructure.
Location: Full remote from Warszawa, Poland

What you will do
- Own technical delivery for sprint commitments, including estimation, dependency management, and blocker escalation.
- Collaborate with the Product Owner to shape requirements, challenge scope, and translate the roadmap into a technical plan.
- Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and distribute technical knowledge across the team.
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs with PHP, Symfony, and Doctrine.
- Drive AWS modernization using containerized workloads and serverless services such as Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
- Diagnose production issues, manage bug triage, optimize RDS MySQL performance, and lead AI spec-driven development.
Requirements
- Experience leading a team or workstream, mentoring engineers, making technical decisions, and driving delivery.
- Hands-on experience building production applications with PHP, Symfony, MySQL, and Doctrine.
- Experience running applications on AWS and debugging production systems using CloudWatch logs, metrics, and alarms.
- Strong REST API design skills, including security and performance considerations; GraphQL experience is beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of production MySQL workloads, EXPLAIN plans, indexes, and query optimization.
- Experience with automated PHP testing using phpspec and Behat, plus predictable sprint delivery and scope management.
Nice to have
- Experience with AI coding agents or spec-first development workflows.
- Messaging and event-driven systems such as RabbitMQ, Redis, SQS, SNS, or EventBridge.
- Serverless services, Infrastructure as Code with AWS CDK or CloudFormation, and Auth0 integrations.
- Understanding of GDPR and secure handling of sensitive data.
