Trade Compliance Manager (Defense Tech)

What you will do

• Lead UK trade compliance and support regional compliance activities across Europe.
• Prepare, submit, and manage UK export authorizations through SPIRE, including SIELs, OIELs, and OGELs.
• Classify products, software, and technical data under UK and European export control regimes.
• Advise engineering, program management, legal, business development, supply chain, and senior leadership on export controls and licensing strategies.
• Manage visitor controls, international travel guidance, restricted-party screening, and compliance documentation.
• Monitor regulatory developments and improve scalable classification and licensing workflows.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in trade compliance, customs, or export control within aerospace, defense, or advanced technology.
• Experience with UK export control regulations and/or US ITAR and EAR frameworks.
• Experience managing export authorizations and interacting with ECJU, EU member-state authorities, or US government departments.
• Strong knowledge of export classification, jurisdiction determinations, licensing workflows, and cross-border European transfers.
• Experience collaborating with engineering and program teams to interpret technical information for export classifications.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience liaising with UK Government departments.
• Experience with defense technologies, dual-use items, or autonomous systems.
• Compliance operations experience across the EU, US, and APJ.
• Certified Export Specialist, Certified Customs Specialist, or equivalent certification.
