TL;DR
Senior Associate, Commercial Operations (Energy Markets): Analyzing power and gas market fundamentals, pricing, forecasts, and operational assets across WECC and ISOs with an accent on quantitative modeling, bidding support, and market-impact analysis. Focus on building price-forecasting and dispatch-simulation tools, evaluating congestion and transmission constraints, and presenting data-driven insights to commercial and operational stakeholders.

Location: Hybrid work from the Lake Oswego, OR; Dana Point, CA; Phoenix, AZ; or Salt Lake City, UT office, with attendance required at least 3 days per week. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. Travel up to 25% may be required.

What you will do

  • Analyze supply, demand, pricing, generation, and transmission data to identify market trends, risks, and portfolio opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain quantitative models for price forecasting, congestion analysis, and generation dispatch simulation.
  • Support trading and portfolio management with insights on market fundamentals and forward curves.
  • Create Python- or R-based tools and dashboards to automate analysis and visualize real-time market dynamics.
  • Collaborate with forecasters, asset management, scheduling coordinators, strategists, legal, and finance teams to optimize bidding strategies and assess policy impacts.
  • Prepare and present analytical reports to leadership and commercial and operational stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in energy analytics, quantitative research, or power market operations; ISO/RTO experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, modeling, and fundamental research skills, including the ability to write, read, and edit code.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB, plus familiarity with SQL databases, APIs, and data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Understanding of electricity and gas market fundamentals, including generation stacks, congestion, renewables, transmission, and pipeline constraints.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly in PowerPoint and Excel, with strong communication skills for explaining technical insights to non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with ISO/RTO power markets.
