Data Platform Enginer (AI)

Location: 100% remote, based anywhere in the United States or Canada. Optional in-person collaboration is available at the San Francisco headquarters.

Salary: $190,000–$220,000 annual base salary, depending on level, location, and experience, plus pre-IPO equity.

Owner is an AI-native software platform that helps independent restaurants and other local businesses manage websites, online ordering, CRM, POS, marketing, and operations.

What you will do

• Design and build data systems powering analytics, AI, and business intelligence.
• Replace one-off scripts with reproducible, production-grade data pipelines.
• Own and evolve Snowflake, dbt, Dagster, ingestion, reverse ETL, and semantic-layer infrastructure.
• Improve data reliability, consistency, compliance, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Build self-service tooling for analysts, engineers, AI systems, and business partners.
• Drive technical decisions, review code, guide peers, and help grow the data platform team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data engineering or analytics engineering experience.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Production experience with Snowflake.
• Deep ETL/ELT fundamentals, including dbt and a modern orchestrator such as Dagster or Airflow.
• Experience building reliable, performant systems and collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States or Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience with semantic layers, AI/ML data infrastructure, LLM retrieval, RAG, feature stores, or dataset compliance.
• Experience with reverse ETL or personalization platforms.
• Databricks experience.
• Background in data governance, access control, cost optimization, or mentoring engineers.
