Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in the New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco metro areas. . Office attendance is expected on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with more frequent attendance during onboarding and team onsite weeks.

Salary: $160,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity.

Build AI-powered proactive documentation technology that reviews patient data in electronic health records to recommend diagnoses and surface clinical evidence.

What you will do

• Build and maintain data pipelines supporting analytics and research initiatives.
• Develop data models and transformations for reliable downstream data delivery.
• Partner with Engineering to identify and resolve data quality issues.
• Operate, monitor, and maintain the data platform and its pipelines.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Research teams on data-driven decisions.
• Investigate pipeline failures and optimize processing workloads and storage for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in data engineering.
• Production experience building and maintaining data pipelines and data models.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as PySpark and cloud data platforms, preferably AWS.
• Practical experience with LLM-assisted development and its capabilities and limitations.
• Willingness to participate in on-call support for owned systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Iceberg, AWS Athena, Dagster, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, FastAPI, or Metabase.
• Experience with data quality, monitoring, and observability.
• Familiarity with healthcare data, HIPAA compliance, de-identification, or OMOP CDM.
• Experience supporting production data workflows and working in a fast-paced startup environment.
