What you will do
- Own the drone tether power system from architecture through validation and production.
- Design high-voltage DC transmission and DC-DC conversion stages for approximately 7,000 W continuous load and transient peaks up to 10,000 W.
- Size tether conductors, insulation, connectors, protection thresholds, and current limits with appropriate safety margins.
- Design thermal management for converters, connectors, and cabling across the full load range.
- Integrate the power system with ESCs, the flight controller, and onboard power distribution to maintain stable behavior during load steps and peak transients.
- Coordinate tether mechanical integration and electrical safety compliance, and produce schematics, power budgets, test plans, and design documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Experience shipping multiple electronics products to production and owning hardware from concept through deployment.
- Proven experience designing multi-kilowatt power electronics, including DC-DC converters.
- Working knowledge of high-voltage DC systems, conductor sizing, thermal management, grounding, and electrical protection.
- Experience integrating power systems with three-phase motor drives and ESCs under load.
- Comfort with electrical safety standards, high-voltage grounding, and arc-flash mitigation.
Nice to have
- Experience with tethered drones, UAV power systems, or long-cable power delivery.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC design and mitigation.
- Hands-on prototyping, hardware bring-up, and bench validation experience.
- Background in EV motor controller design or high-voltage DC power routing.
