TL;DR
Procurement and Inventory Specialist Lead (Automotive): Managing procurement, supplier coordination, purchase orders, and inventory for automotive components, tools, materials, and services supporting physical and virtual test labs with an accent on technical requirements, supplier compliance, and delivery execution. Focus on optimizing sourcing and costs, maintaining accurate lab stock, resolving fulfillment issues, and supporting vehicle development, prototype builds, validation, and testing programs.

Location: Onsite in Warren, Michigan, United States; full-time onsite presence is required. This role is not eligible for relocation benefits, and relocation costs are the selected candidate's responsibility.

What you will do

  • Source and procure automotive-grade components, materials, tools, and services from approved suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms while developing cost-saving and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate procurement activities for new product launches, prototype builds, vehicle development, validation, and testing programs.
  • Manage work orders, shopping carts, purchase orders, supplier follow-up, delivery tracking, and issue resolution using procurement platforms.
  • Implement and maintain inventory systems for lab tools, equipment, parts, and materials.
  • Partner with engineering, lab operations, fleet, quality, suppliers, and logistics teams to ensure technical compliance and timely material delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in procurement, engineering operations, or lab support, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, components, instrumentation, testing tools, material specifications, and supplier ecosystems.
  • Proficiency with eSAP, eMERGE, Ariba, Jira, and Confluence, along with strong negotiation, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with automotive quality standards, compliance requirements, vehicle development lifecycles, and supplier integration.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting engineering labs, vehicle test operations, prototype builds, or validation environments.
  • Experience with budget planning, spend tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
