Assistant Buyer

Location: Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom; hybrid with 60% of the week at office locations or local sites and the remainder remote

What you will do

• Support supplier management through performance monitoring, relationship building, quality assurance, negotiation, and identifying new supplier opportunities.
• Deliver category, trade, promotion, and event plans to improve sales, footfall, KPI performance, and forecasting accuracy.
• Analyse customer insights, market trends, competitor activity, and performance data to shape category strategy.
• Support product range development, innovation, promotional activity, and online product presentation, including images, taxonomy, and search optimisation.
• Collaborate with Merchandising and Supply Chain teams on range changes, promotions, product launches, and critical path deadlines.
• Plan National Features and Events while maintaining compliance with Tesco policies, GSCOP requirements, and the Business Code of Conduct.

Requirements

• Experience within Buying is required.
• Experience in supplier management, relationship building, negotiation, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of buying, category management, range planning, trade planning, and commercial performance management.
• Skills in data analysis, reporting, insight generation, and commercial strategy development.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong IT skills.
• Understanding of retail operations and customer trends.
