Head of Lab Operations (Biotech)

What you will do

• Lead the operational fit-out of the new London laboratory from shell to fully functional site.
• Coordinate the installation, qualification, and commissioning of complex laboratory instrument fleets.
• Establish and manage lab infrastructure including procurement, cold chain, maintenance, and waste management.
• Own site safety, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance for the London facility.
• Hire and manage the laboratory operations team responsible for day-to-day site performance.
• Continuously improve lab throughput, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Must be based in London or ready to relocate.
• Proven experience leading a laboratory fit-out, site move, or new lab launch.
• Deep hands-on experience in high-throughput, automation-heavy biotech or life-science environments.
• Strong background in biology, biochemistry, or bioengineering.
• Expertise in laboratory safety, permitting, and UK compliance standards.
• Experience managing vendors, contractors, and complex equipment installation projects.
• Comfortable using AI tools to improve operational workflows and efficiency.
