Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid. The role requires occasional travel, nights, weekends, and on-call support, as well as work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. The range applies to new hires across US locations.

What you will do
- Own cable magnet hardware for SPARC, ARC, and other projects from concept through validation, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, and installation.
- Develop and iterate mechanical designs using physics, structural mechanics, and analysis techniques for metallic and composite components.
- Perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis to validate hardware against requirements.
- Collaborate with R&D, analysis, manufacturing, and procurement teams to deliver program milestones.
- Diagnose production and assembly issues, determine root causes, and implement design solutions.
- Prepare technical specifications, design notes, reports, presentations, and validation documentation while mentoring junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant field.
- At least 7 years of engineering design and analysis experience, including 2 or more years supporting production hardware and implementing design-for-manufacturing or assembly changes.
- Hands-on experience designing parts for high loads or extreme environments.
- Strong knowledge of static structures and heat transfer, plus familiarity with the full mechanical design process.
- Required: CAD proficiency and FEA experience. NX, ANSYS, and COMSOL are preferred.
- Self-motivated, committed to professional growth, and capable of solving complex engineering problems.
Nice to have
- Experience designing components beyond desktop scale, including high-power, high-mass, or high-force systems.
- Production or heavy-equipment assembly experience.
- Experience with electromagnets, vacuum systems, welding, composite materials, radiation environments, or cryogenic environments.
- Expertise in ASME Y14 GD&T principles.
