Staff Modeling and Simulation Engineer

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead advanced Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics for advanced processing equipment.
• Build and evaluate coupled simulations covering structural mechanics, high-temperature thermal management, fluid and gas flow, and chemical reaction kinetics.
• Implement simulation data management, mesh convergence, and verification and validation workflows using physical test data.
• Provide analytical leadership in design reviews, assessing structural margins, thermal stresses, and flow uniformity.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, materials, and chemical specialists to translate simulation results into hardware modifications.
• Own modeling milestones and computational resources, resolve engineering bottlenecks, and mentor junior engineering staff.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field focused on computational mechanics and multi-physics modeling.
• 10+ years of experience in simulation and predictive analysis of complex R&D systems.
• Advanced hands-on expertise with ANSYS, COMSOL Multiphysics, or equivalent FEA/CFD platforms.
• Experience with coupled simulations such as fluid-structure interaction, thermal-structural behavior, and chemical reaction modeling.
• Ability to validate models against strain gauge data, thermal imaging, and flow sensor measurements.
• Ability to work on-site in Milpitas, California, with occasional travel, night/weekend work, or on-call availability. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and work safely around industrial hazards including heat, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with industry codes for simulation-driven design validation.
• Experience with transient dynamic simulations or precision motion systems in extreme thermal environments.
