Senior Mechanical Engineer (Thin-Film Deposition)

Salary: $146,000–$210,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of advanced R&D equipment for thin-film processing.
• Own key mechanical modules and subsystems and lead related design reviews.
• Define and maintain interfaces with other engineering subsystems.
• Track project progress and communicate status to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists and engineers to deliver safe, reliable, high-performance equipment.
• Mentor engineering staff and drive timely, specification-compliant project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industrial experience.
• 8+ years of experience, including 7+ years as a senior mechanical design engineer or engineering team lead working on R&D systems and manufacturing equipment.
• Expertise in 3D modeling; experience with SolidWorks and NX is preferred.
• Experience with COMSOL, ANSYS, or other FEA tools.
• Ability to select and qualify vendors and lead within direct or matrix structures.
• Ability to work on-site in Milpitas, lift up to 50 lbs, perform physical activities for extended periods, and occasionally work nights, weekends, on-call shifts, or travel.

Nice to have

• Experience building first-of-kind or experimental tools for materials science or semiconductor R&D.
• Familiarity with Semi-S8, ASME, ACI, ASTM, and other mechanical standards.
• Experience operating equipment in a manufacturing environment.
