TL;DR
Field Applications Engineer (SATCOM) (Military SATCOM and COTM): Installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting satellite communications hubs and mobile airborne terminals in support of military operations with an accent on RF systems, IP networking, virtualization, and Linux environments. Focus on resolving complex live-operation issues, briefing technical and non-technical stakeholders, and providing customer-facing support across 24x7 operations.

Location: Tampa, Florida, United States. The role requires support in a 24x7 setting, travel up to 30% CONUS and OCONUS, and training at the Carlsbad facility for up to three months before deployment.

Salary: $80,000–$126,500 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $99,500–$149,500 annually.

What you will do

  • Install, test, operate, monitor, maintain, and administer SATCOM hubs and remote terminals, including airborne Communications-on-the-Move platforms.
  • Support RF, IP networking, servers, virtualization, Windows, Linux, and proprietary SATCOM subsystems.
  • Troubleshoot complex RF, networking, software, and communications issues during live operations.
  • Provide local and remote technical support to terminal users and serve as the primary customer interface.
  • Brief technical and non-technical stakeholders, manage tickets, document troubleshooting, and improve operational processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with IP-based military SATCOM systems.
  • Working knowledge of Ku/Ka-band RF equipment, ACUs, HPAs, UPCs, tracking antennas, test equipment, and communications theory.
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix, server virtualization, IP networking, routers, switches, security appliances, and traffic shapers.
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification, or the ability to obtain it within six months; examples include Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, and SSCP.
  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance and US citizenship required.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts in a 24x7 environment.

Nice to have

  • Associate degree in telecommunications or a related discipline.
  • CCNA certification.
