Sr. Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, United States work authorization required. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $163,000–$180,000, $184,000–$203,000, or $204,000–$226,000 annually, depending on geographic tier and expertise. Tier 1 applies to the NYC metro and San Francisco areas.

What you will do

• Set technical direction across multiple platform domains and shape architecture decisions spanning services and teams.
• Own ambiguous, high-impact technical work including greenfield services, large refactors, platform capabilities, and systemic risk resolution.
• Lead AI-native and agentic engineering initiatives, including internal frameworks, skills, MCP servers, evaluation harnesses, and reusable workflows.
• Design and ship production AI features with LLM orchestration, evaluation, observability, and cost management.
• Raise engineering standards for quality, security, compliance, system scalability, incident response, and operational health.
• Directly manage two mid-level engineers while coaching engineers across the organization and partnering with product, design, and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including typically 3+ years at Staff level or equivalent senior IC scope.
• Experience owning major services, platform areas, or greenfield initiatives and driving multi-team technical programs.
• Strong experience with Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, Docker, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Experience with security and compliance in SaaS environments, including SOC2, vulnerability management, authentication, and production systems handling customer data.
• Hands-on experience with AI-enabled development tools and agentic engineering approaches, including multi-step automations or AI-assisted development pipelines.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable.

• Direct people-management experience.
• Experience mentoring or leading engineers as a tech lead, senior IC, or manager.
