Digital Forensics Lead (CBP) (Cybersecurity): Leading digital forensic investigations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, preserving and analyzing evidence from compromised or suspect systems with an accent on chain of custody, defensible processes, and cross-system timeline reconstruction. Focus on producing findings that support incident response, threat hunting, insider threat monitoring, disciplinary, legal, and law enforcement actions.
Location: Ashburn, Virginia, United States β hybrid. Rare travel as needed. U.S. citizenship is required.

What you will do
- Lead digital forensic investigations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations.
- Preserve and analyze evidence from compromised or suspect systems while maintaining chain of custody.
- Reconstruct events and reconcile activity across multiple systems using defensible forensic methods.
- Deliver actionable findings to incident response, threat hunting, and insider threat monitoring teams.
- Document findings for disciplinary, legal, and law enforcement proceedings and explain technical results to non-technical audiences.
- Improve recurring case processes, tooling, techniques, and forensic program practices.
Requirements
- Experience leading digital forensic investigations whose findings supported disciplinary, legal, or law enforcement action.
- Strong understanding of chain of custody and evidentiary standards.
- Experience in a federal or highly regulated environment.
- Ability to present forensic findings to legal, HR, leadership, or other non-technical audiences.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Active CBP Background Investigation and EOD are strongly preferred; a DHS fitness determination or active DoD clearance is also relevant. Candidates without these credentials may begin CBP BI processing.

- GCFE, GCFA, or EnCE certification.
- Active CBP BI and EOD, which may shorten the start date.
