TL;DR

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, and maintain functional safety concepts across system, hardware, and software levels throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead hazard and risk assessment, FMEA/FMEDA, and fault tree analysis for collaborative and autonomous robotic systems.
  • Create and maintain safety plans, safety cases, safety requirement specifications, validation reports, and mature safety concepts.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 10218, and the Machinery Directive.
  • Coordinate the definition, allocation, integration, and validation of safety-critical requirements across hardware, embedded software, controls, and certification teams.
  • Advance safety processes for AI-based perception, autonomous navigation, and dynamic human-robot collaboration.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Robotics, Systems Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of functional safety engineering experience for safety-related systems at system, software, and hardware levels.
  • Hands-on experience executing safety lifecycles according to IEC 61508, ISO 13849, or ISO 26262.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, and ISO 10218; familiarity with ISO 26262 and SOTIF is valued.
  • Experience with HARA, FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, SIL/PL determination, and safety requirement allocation.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Medini or BTC and traceability environments including DOORS, Jama, or Polarion; strong cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

  • TÜV Functional Safety Engineer certification or equivalent.
  • Experience in robotics, industrial automation, or automotive.
  • Experience with perception-based safety functions and SOTIF.
