PLC Programmer R&D (m/f/d) (Automation)

Location: Maia, Portugal; remote work option available. Willingness to travel locally or internationally for approximately 20% of working time.

What you will do

• Develop PLC software independently and collaboratively for intralogistics and material handling systems.
• Further develop, harmonize, and standardize automation software platforms.
• Take technical ownership of software solutions and help define engineering standards and best practices.
• Create technical documentation, training materials, and knowledge-sharing content.
• Collaborate with software development, electrical engineering, project management, service, and product development teams.
• Support project teams and advise customers and internal stakeholders on technical solutions.

Requirements

• Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable qualification; alternatively, a technical apprenticeship with further professional training.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in PLC programming and commissioning for intralogistics, warehouse automation, storage and retrieval machines, or conveyor systems.
• Strong expertise with Siemens TIA Portal, ideally including Integrated Safety concepts.
• Experience with industrial drive technology, preferably SEW, and communication networks such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, CAN, and IO-Link.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and governing software standards and engineering methodologies.
• Familiarity with project management principles, strong communication skills, customer focus, and a collaborative working style.
