PLC Integration Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Hybrid in Somerville, Massachusetts, with onsite visits to customer manufacturing facilities and travel up to 50%

What you will do

• Integrate hirify.global edge devices with customer OT networks, PLCs, SCADA systems, and cloud connectivity.
• Configure IP addresses, VLANs, DMZs, firewall rules, and industrial communication protocols.
• Commission and troubleshoot Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and PROFINET connections.
• Diagnose DNS, NTP, network, hardware, and data-flow issues during deployments and steady-state operations.
• Work with customer IT, OT, process, and internal engineering teams to complete pilots and Site Acceptance Tests.
• Document field patterns, create runbooks and network diagrams, and help automate repetitive integration work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent practical background.
• Hands-on experience with PLC platforms and industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or PROFINET.
• Practical proficiency with Git/GitHub, Python scripting, Linux command-line fundamentals, and networking concepts including IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, NTP, and TCP/IP.
• Ability to analyze network traces, follow packets, debug data-flow problems, and communicate across customer IT/OT and internal software teams.
• Portfolio demonstrating networking, systems integration, debugging, or problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% and work onsite at customer manufacturing facilities as required.

Nice to have

• Advanced Linux skills, including shell scripting, systemd, tcpdump, netstat, ip, and nmap.
• Experience with IT/OT convergence, Industry 4.0, Purdue model, ISA-99, or industrial network segmentation.
• Familiarity with time-series or sensor data, monitoring, alerting, or ticketing systems.
• Startup experience and comfort building processes from scratch.
