PLC Integration Engineer

Location: Somerville, MA, United States; hybrid workplace with onsite customer visits and up to 50% travel

What you will do

• Integrate hirify.global edge devices with customer OT networks and PLC/SCADA systems, including IP configuration, VLANs, DMZs, firewall rules, and cloud connectivity.
• Configure and troubleshoot Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and PROFINET communications.
• Diagnose field connectivity issues involving IP configuration, DNS, NTP, network outages, and data flow.
• Work with customer IT, OT, and process teams during deployment pilots and support Site Acceptance Test completion.
• Document integration patterns, maintain runbooks and network diagrams, and provide structured feedback to edge-device engineering.
• Monitor deployed site health, perform root-cause analysis, support customer cybersecurity and network architecture discussions, and assist sales with pre-sales discovery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent relevant background.
• Hands-on experience with PLC platforms and industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, or PROFINET.
• Practical proficiency with Git/GitHub, Python scripting, and Linux command-line fundamentals.
• Knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, NTP, and the TCP/IP stack, with the ability to interpret network traces and follow packets.
• Projects demonstrating networking, systems integration, debugging, or problem-solving skills.
• Strong cross-functional communication and willingness to travel up to 50% to customer manufacturing sites.

Nice to have

• Advanced Linux skills, including shell scripting, systemd, tcpdump, netstat, ip, and nmap.
• Experience with IT/OT convergence, Industry 4.0, Purdue model, ISA-99, or industrial network segmentation.
• Familiarity with time-series or sensor data, monitoring and alerting tools, or ticketing systems.
• Startup experience and adaptability in building new processes.
