TL;DR
Navigation Software Engineer (Robotics): Integrating, validating, and improving navigation solutions for mobile robots and mobile manipulators with an accent on ROS 2, localization, fleet interfaces, and real-robot commissioning. Focus on developing software adapters, analyzing navigation failures, tuning maps and trajectories, and defining acceptance criteria for robust and safe navigation.

Location: On-site in Metzingen / Riederich, Germany

hirify.global develops mobile robot and mobile manipulator platforms requiring reliable navigation in customer environments.

What you will do

  • Integrate and debug third-party navigation solutions on mobile robot and mobile manipulator platforms.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of navigation software capabilities, configurations, releases, and limitations.
  • Collaborate with navigation vendors by reporting issues, providing feedback, and following up on fixes and improvements.
  • Develop software adapters connecting navigation systems, hardware interfaces, and fleet interfaces.
  • Commission navigation on real robots, including map creation, localization tuning, trajectory validation, and recovery behavior.
  • Analyze navigation failures and define commissioning and acceptance criteria for performance, robustness, safety-related behavior, and integration.

Requirements

  • Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Solid knowledge of navigation, localization, SLAM techniques, and ROS 2.
  • Experience with C++, Python, RESTful APIs, and Docker.
  • Ability to debug complex software architectures, isolate issues, analyze root causes, and resolve problems using appropriate tools.
  • Willingness to work with real robots, customer environments, and cross-functional teams.
  • Good English communication skills required.

Nice to have

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in robotics, software engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Understanding of VDA5050, fleet management, or multi-robot traffic concepts.
