Senior Staff Backend Engineer (Fraud Detection)

Location: Bengaluru, India. Hybrid work requires at least 3 days in the office per week, with up to 2 days working from home; onsite and remote arrangements may also apply depending on the role.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and development of scalable data and ML infrastructure for fraud detection, risk evaluation, and trust systems.
• Build and optimize batch and real-time data pipelines processing high-volume marketplace events with low latency and high reliability.
• Own the productionization, deployment, scaling, and operation of machine learning models.
• Partner with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and business stakeholders to translate modeling requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for data processing, ML platform capabilities, and fraud detection infrastructure.
• Mentor senior engineers, lead cross-functional initiatives, and guide architectural decisions and critical production incidents.

Requirements

• 13+ years of experience in backend engineering, data engineering, or large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong experience building real-time distributed data processing systems and low-latency, high-throughput pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Flink, Kafka, Spark Streaming, or similar streaming technologies.
• Strong proficiency in Java-based backend development and distributed system architecture.
• Experience deploying, scaling, and optimizing machine learning models in production.
• Strong knowledge of system design, scalability, fault tolerance, and operational excellence.

Nice to have

• Experience in fraud detection, risk systems, trust and safety, payments risk, commerce, marketplaces, or fintech.
• Experience with ML platforms, model-serving infrastructure, feature stores, or inference pipelines.
• Experience operating systems processing millions of events or transactions per day.
• Experience with GenAI tools for software development, debugging, testing, and engineering productivity.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, containers, and modern infrastructure platforms.
