Composite M&P; Engineer III (Aerospace Composites)

Location: Onsite at the manufacturing and test site in Briggs, Texas, United States; travel to customers and other Firefly sites up to 10%.

What you will do

• Research and select composite materials and processes for existing and new aerospace structures.
• Design and conduct material testing, including microscopy, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, and failure analysis.
• Execute material characterization and allowable campaigns and develop technical specifications.
• Support manufacturing and design teams with material and process selection, qualification, inspection, and optimization.
• Lead root cause corrective actions and statistically driven process improvement campaigns.
• Develop materials technology roadmaps, collaborate with external experts, and mentor junior materials engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering or science field.
• At least 5 years of experience in polymeric materials research, testing, or manufacturing.
• Technical understanding of composite processes, including out-of-autoclave processing, polymer joining, and surface engineering for aerospace applications.
• Experience coordinating laboratory work and analyzing data to support materials engineering decisions.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree or equivalent experience focused on composite materials.
• Seven or more years of experience with carbon fiber composite materials, processes, testing, or manufacturing.
• Experience with carbon fiber prepreg systems, structural composite characterization, testing standards, and processing.
• Expertise in mechanical and thermal testing, microscopy, NDE, failure analysis, data analysis, and technical writing.
• Experience applying ASTM, ASM, NASA, and ISO standards and developing methods that correlate material properties with product performance.
