TL;DR
Software Engineering Intern (AI) (C/C++, compilers, systems software): Building compiler, runtime, simulation, and developer tooling for the DX-1 decode accelerator with an accent on systems performance, dataflow architecture, and ML inference infrastructure. Focus on optimizing memory layout, scheduling, tiling, simulation fidelity, and measuring performance across compiler, systems, FPGA, and ASIC interfaces.

Location: On-site in Toronto, Canada

Salary: CA$60 per hour

Company

hirify.global is developing the DX-1, a dataflow accelerator architected specifically for large-scale AI decode and disaggregated inference.

What you will do

  • Own and deliver scoped projects with a named mentor and defined outcomes.
  • Contribute production code to the compiler, runtime, simulation, or developer tooling stack.
  • Optimize performance through layout, scheduling, tiling, and related systems techniques.
  • Extend simulation models to represent real system behavior more accurately.
  • Collaborate with compiler, systems, FPGA, and ASIC engineers on device trade-offs.
  • Measure results and communicate conclusions clearly.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related field, with an available co-op or internship term.
  • Practical C/C++ experience beyond coursework.
  • Strong systems fundamentals, including memory hierarchies, concurrency, and performance analysis.
  • Demonstrated depth in compilers or systems software.
  • Familiarity with ML framework internals, low-level programming, or optimization techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to LLVM, OpenXLA/XLA, MLIR, or TVM.
  • Understanding of LLM inference concepts such as KV cache, prefill, decode, batching, and quantization.
  • Experience with FPGA, simulation, emulation, hardware bring-up, or other non-GPU hardware.
  • PyTorch or JAX internals beyond the user-facing API.

Culture & Benefits

  • Four-month contract term, extendable to eight months.
  • Work alongside the engineering team in the Toronto office.
  • M4 Macs are provided, with M4 Pro upgrades for engineering roles.
  • High-spec noise-cancelling headphones and an ergonomic workstation are provided.
  • Local coffee shop expenses are covered.
  • Eligibility is subject to U.S. export control restrictions based on recent citizenship or permanent residency; applicants from certain restricted countries may not be considered.
