Principal Electric Propulsion Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based out of the propulsion engineering team.

Base pay range: $162,000–$270,000 USD per year, with company stock included in total compensation.

What you will do

• Own the development of new and existing propulsion products and systems as technical lead.
• Perform performance calculations, systems modelling, static and transient analysis, validation, and system design.
• Define, gather, and manage requirements and lead systems engineering activities.
• Plan, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion and flight-hardware tests.
• Coordinate stakeholders, schedules, priorities, engineering tasks, technical risks, and status reporting.
• Mentor engineers and technicians and maintain technical standards through documentation, training, coaching, and reviews.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in propulsion system development or an equivalent high-performance engineering field.
• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another technical engineering discipline.
• Expertise in propulsion system modelling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using test data and tools such as Amesim, EcosimPro, Simulink, or Simscape.
• Experience with requirements, detailed design, qualification, production, and acceptance testing across the end-to-end development process.
• Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering V and risk-based decision-making, including experience with electric propulsion systems.
• U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required. ITAR compliance may also require U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylum status, or applicable government authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience with Jama, Python for data manipulation, NX or equivalent CAD, GD&T, engineering drawings, and PLM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
• Experience with National Instruments data acquisition systems, flight-hardware testing, and troubleshooting.
• Master’s or PhD in an engineering discipline.
• Ability to work through ambiguity, apply physics-based models and test data, and manage technical plans and delivery.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and hands-on engineering skills.
