Firmware Engineer III (Embedded)

Location: North Austin, Texas; work authorization must comply with U.S. Government ITAR export regulations.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and integrate embedded flight software for spacecraft.
• Build bare-metal and RTOS firmware for microcontrollers and microprocessors.
• Architect low-level drivers, communication protocols, and system-level firmware for real-time applications.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system architecture and debug hardware/firmware interactions.
• Optimize firmware for power efficiency, performance, and memory constraints.
• Perform code reviews, system-level debugging, profiling, documentation, and validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional embedded firmware development experience in Linux environments.
• Professional experience delivering bare-metal or RTOS embedded firmware, such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems; assembly language experience is a plus.
• Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and real-time system constraints.
• Familiarity with JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and embedded development environments.

• Experience developing C++ applications for embedded systems.
• CI/CD workflow development for embedded firmware projects.
• FPGA development and firmware integration with FPGA designs.
• Yocto, Buildroot, or similar custom embedded Linux build systems.
