Senior/Principal Power Electronics Engineer

Location: North East, United Kingdom; permanent hybrid role

Salary: £50,000–£80,000 per year, depending on experience

What you will do

• Lead the technical development of power electronics systems for current and next-generation products.
• Provide technical leadership across power electronics, motor drives, and electrified powertrain systems.
• Support multiple engineering projects by meeting technical milestones, deadlines, and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective product solutions.
• Lead technical investigations, corrective actions, product verification, validation, and system testing.
• Act as a technical contact for customers, suppliers, and external partners while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Significant industrial experience developing power electronics in automotive, electric vehicle, motorsport, rail, aerospace, industrial drive systems, or a similar sector.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of power electronics, electrical machines, and drive systems.
• Experience developing products from concept through production and working in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience supporting customer-facing projects, managing technical stakeholders, and leading technical workstreams.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and customer requirements.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward professional accreditation.
• Experience mentoring or leading engineers.
• Understanding of functional safety, product validation, and industry standards.
• Continued professional development in power electronics or electrification.
