Test Architect (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States

Base salary: $190,000–$250,000 per year, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Set the technical strategy and architecture for end-to-end test automation across frontend, backend, 3D modeling, desktop clinical applications, and AI/ML systems.
• Drive AI-assisted authoring, self-healing automation, AI-generated specification-based tests, and LLM-driven failure triage.
• Build post-deployment testing capabilities, including production smoke tests, synthetic monitoring, and continuous validation.
• Define test depth, documentation, traceability, tool validation, and evidence standards according to software safety classification and the medical device QMS.
• Establish UI, mobile, API, contract, clinical data interoperability, report validation, and CI/CD testing standards.
• Lead root-cause investigations, regulatory audit and submission support, technical reviews, mentoring, and hiring for the Test Engineering function.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of experience in software test engineering, SDET, or quality engineering, including hands-on architecture of automation frameworks.
• Required experience testing Software as a Medical Device or other regulated medical device software.
• Deep knowledge of medical device QMS practices and standards including ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and 21 CFR Part 820.
• Expert proficiency with Selenium/WebDriver and Playwright, including framework architecture, parallel execution, stability, and flake reduction.
• Strong programming skills in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, or C#, plus experience with API and contract testing.
• Experience integrating automation into CI/CD and cloud environments such as AWS, with strong debugging and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ketryx, Jama, Polarion, DICOM, HL7, clinical validation, medical imaging, or ML/AI testing.
• Experience validating 3D visualizations, automating legacy Windows/C++ applications, or managing synthetic, anonymized, and adversarial datasets.
• Experience with performance testing tools such as k6, Locust, JMeter, or Gatling, data-pipeline testing, microservices, and quality metrics.
