Director, Data Platform & Engineering

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; hybrid with 3 days per week onsite. Candidates based in the Tysons vicinity are prioritized.

Annual base salary: $155,500–$270,000, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the enterprise data strategy, technical architecture, and medallion-based data platform.
• Build governed data products and a prioritized roadmap for executive leadership, FP&A, GTM Analytics, and other business functions.
• Lead and coach a small team of data engineers and analysts while reviewing data models, pipelines, and technical decisions.
• Define data governance standards covering quality, access, lineage, and shared business definitions.
• Evaluate and roll out self-service analytics and AI-enabled tools for non-technical business users.
• Lead the selection and management of the data platform, analytics, visualization, orchestration, and ELT technology stack.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering and/or data platform management, including 5+ years leading data platform, data engineering, or analytics teams.
• Hands-on proficiency in SQL and dbt or a comparable transformation and orchestration solution.
• Experience architecting and operating enterprise-scale cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, with pipeline orchestration and ELT tools.
• Experience delivering data platform strategy end to end, including architecture, governance, and business adoption.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, prioritization, agile delivery, and executive advisory skills.
• Proven experience hiring, coaching, and developing a small senior technical team.

Nice to have

• Experience with medallion or similar layered data architecture.
• Experience with Tableau and self-service BI tools such as Sigma or Omni.
• Familiarity with native AI/ML capabilities in cloud data platforms, such as Snowflake Cortex.
• Experience in a B2B software or SaaS company supporting FP&A, GTM, and executive reporting.
