TL;DR
Turbopump Hydrodynamics Engineer (Rocket Propulsion): Designing and qualifying primary and secondary flowpaths for rocket engine turbopumps, including inducers, impellers, diffusers, volutes, leakage networks, and thrust-balance systems, with an accent on efficiency, suction performance, and operation across the full envelope. Focus on CFD and meanline analysis, test-campaign execution, hardware iteration, cavitation performance, and integration with manufacturing, rotordynamics, and structural teams.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required ITAR authorizations.

Salary: $170,000–$250,000 annually

Company

Building satellite-based infrastructure for powering and connecting the orbital economy, including in-orbit energy transmission and secure optical data capabilities.

What you will do

  • Own rocket-engine turbopump primary and secondary flowpath hydrodynamic design from concept through qualification.
  • Drive efficiency, suction performance, head-rise, axial-thrust, and rotordynamic design trades across the operating envelope.
  • Perform meanline, throughflow, single-phase, and multiphase CFD analysis and correlate results with powerpack and engine test data.
  • Define and execute pump test campaigns, support hot-fire operations, investigate anomalies, and inspect test hardware.
  • Work with manufacturing to resolve fabrication and assembly issues and iterate designs quickly.
  • Develop hydrodynamic tools and best practices for the engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
  • 12+ years of experience designing and analyzing turbomachinery hydrodynamics or aerodynamics for flight hardware or high-performance rotating machinery.
  • Experience with pump sizing, specific-speed and suction-specific-speed selection, blade and passage geometry, and pumped-fluid material compatibility.
  • Experience analyzing secondary flows and axial thrust, including leakage and cavity networks, balance pistons, wear rings, seals, bearings, and coolant circuits.
  • Hands-on experience taking rotating hardware from design through build and test.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with liquid cryogenic rocket-engine turbopumps or reusable propulsion systems.
  • Strong background in cavitation, suction performance, thermodynamic suppression head, and cavitation instabilities.
  • Experience with turbine aerodynamics, cryogenic fluids, or high-speed, high-power-density rotors.
  • Experience integrating hydrodynamic, aerodynamic, secondary-flow, thrust-balance, rotordynamic, and structural analyses.
  • Experience mentoring or leading engineers.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity in hirify.global Corp.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan, paid time off, and 10 paid holidays.
  • Paid parental leave and relocation assistance where applicable.
  • Daily office lunch and a stocked kitchen with beverages and snacks.
