Manufacturing Engineer - Weekend Shift (Robotics)

Location: Austin, TX, United States; onsite weekend shift

Defense startup developing autonomous robotic gun turrets that use computer vision and control systems to counter small drones and loitering munitions.

What you will do

• Design and optimize manufacturing workflows, assembly methods, layouts, and automation integration for robotic system components.
• Use CAD/CAM, simulation tools, Minitab, and statistical process control to improve cycle times, yield, and scalability.
• Collaborate with design, quality, and operations teams on Design for Manufacturability and transitions from prototypes to high-volume production.
• Lead root cause analyses using 8D and Fishbone methods, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Set up, validate, and maintain CNC machines, test fixtures, and automated assembly equipment.
• Conduct capability studies, FMEA, Gauge R&R, KPI tracking, supplier process evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 8 years of manufacturing engineering experience in systems or electronics manufacturing.
• Expertise in root cause analysis, statistical tools, process optimization, manufacturing equipment, simulation, and metrology.
• Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, quality management systems, production planning, and continuous improvement.
• Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 standards, plus strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced inspection laboratory and manufacturing environment.
