Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Nuclear): Designing critical systems and structures for factory-fabricated modular nuclear reactors from concept through production with an accent on 3D CAD, GD&T, structural and thermal analysis, and design validation. Focus on leading mechanical architecture, resolving technical trade-offs, integrating DFM/DFA principles, and transitioning complex reactor designs into production.
Location: Must be based in the United States and willing to work on-site in Austin, TX. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Persons compliant with 10 CFR Part 810.
Salary: Starting at $130,000 per year

What you will do
- Lead mechanical design of major reactor module subsystems from concept through production release.
- Own technical decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and drive design reviews with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Perform and direct structural, thermal, fatigue, and seismic analyses to validate designs.
- Develop detailed 3D models, model-based definitions, engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, specifications, and interface control documents.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers on DFM/DFA, support prototype builds and testing, and incorporate lessons learned.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish mechanical design best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of professional mechanical design experience and ownership of the full design lifecycle.
- Expert proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or NX.
- Strong command of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and drawing standards.
- Experience with FEA or other structural and thermal analysis tools.
- U.S. work authorization as a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person under 10 CFR Part 810, plus willingness to work on-site in Austin.
Nice to have
- Experience with pressure vessels, structural weldments, high-temperature systems, stainless steel, or high-nickel alloys.
- Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section III or VIII and nuclear-relevant or highly regulated design standards.
- Experience transitioning complex prototypes to production and mentoring engineers.
- Familiarity with configuration management, change control, calculation software, and AI.
