TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Machine Shop (Nuclear): Developing and optimizing controlled manufacturing processes, tooling, fixturing, and inspection plans for an NQA-1 compliant machine shop with an accent on CNC machining, GD&T, traceability, and quality assurance. Focus on programming and supporting CNC operations, solving manufacturing non-conformances, and implementing lean improvements across machining processes.

Location: On-site in Austin, Texas; must be based in the United States. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Persons in compliance with 10 CFR Part 810 and may not hold non-compliant foreign citizenships.

Salary: Starting at $90,000 per year

What you will do

  • Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes, tooling, fixturing, and process routings for CNC milling, turning, waterjet and laser cutting, EDM, grinding, and related operations.
  • Create work instructions, setup sheets, controlled procedures, and documentation supporting traceability and NQA-1-compliant quality assurance.
  • Select cutting tools, work-holding solutions, machining strategies, and new equipment to improve quality, cycle time, cost, and operational efficiency.
  • Program or support CNC programming using G-code and CAM software, and lead the fabrication of machining tooling and fixtures.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on inspection plans, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and manufacturing non-conformances.
  • Track scrap rate, first-pass yield, cycle time, and OEE while mentoring shop personnel on new processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering supporting a machine shop.
  • Experience in a highly regulated machine shop environment such as AS9100, ISO 13485, or NQA-1.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and ASME Y14.5, material properties, cutting characteristics, and controlled manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC milling, turning, EDM, grinding, CAM software such as Mastercam, NX CAM, or Fusion 360, and CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or Creo.
  • Experience using hand measuring tools and contact or noncontact digital measurement systems, including CMMs and structured-light scanners.
  • Familiarity with welding, heat treatment, coatings, NDE, and their qualification requirements; U.S. citizenship or U.S. person status is required.

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • ASME Y14.5 GD&T Technologist or Senior-level certification.
  • Three years of hands-on machining and three years of hands-on CNC programming experience.
