Senior Propulsion Development Engineer (Fluids) (Aerospace): Developing and operating in-house storable liquid-propellant propulsion systems for on-orbit and lander spacecraft with an accent on fluid-system architecture, thermal-fluids analysis, hardware integration, and testing. Focus on planning propellant and pressurization tests, resolving technical issues, and leading propulsion development projects or small engineering teams.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $135,000–$185,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Own the design, analysis, implementation, testing, and operation of storable liquid-propellant propulsion systems.
  • Architect and lay out fluid systems for high-delta-V propulsion systems and low-mass-fraction vehicles.
  • Plan and execute hardware, propellant, and pressurization system tests.
  • Analyze system performance across thermal-fluids, materials, mechanical, electrical, and controls considerations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver reliable integrated systems.
  • Lead technical projects and/or a small team of engineers while resolving complex technical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace propulsion.
  • Experience with liquid rocket propulsion hardware, testing, and flow-control systems.
  • Knowledge of fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, and materials.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace, or a comparable field.
  • Propulsion system architecture and layout experience for low-mass-fraction vehicles.
  • Experience with nitrous oxide propellant and cross-disciplinary fluid analysis.
  • CAD proficiency and familiarity with aerospace structural analysis standards such as NASA-STD-5012 and NASA-STD-5020.
  • Technical project leadership experience in propulsion development programs.
