Associate or Senior Editor, Communications Earth & Environment (Environmental Sciences)

Location: Hybrid work based in the Shanghai, Beijing, or Nanjing offices in China, or the Madrid office in Spain.

What you will do

• Select and assess manuscripts for publication in line with the journal’s editorial policy.
• Improve the accessibility of accepted manuscripts by refining titles, abstracts, introductions, and structure.
• Ensure accepted manuscripts are complete and ready for production.
• Recommend manuscripts for press releases and draft release materials.
• Recruit, train, and support external editors while promoting the journal’s editorial policies.
• Attend conferences and research-institution meetings, advise marketing and advertising, and contribute editorial content to special projects.

Requirements

• Research experience to PhD level or equivalent in Earth and environmental sciences.
• Strong ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of multidisciplinary research.
• Broad interest in scientific research beyond the primary area of specialisation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
• Willingness to engage with scientists worldwide, both online and in person.

Nice to have

• Experience in ocean sciences or atmospheric chemistry.
• Editorial experience, postdoctoral experience, or broad scientific training.
