What you will do

• Determine suitable ion trap layouts with users.
• Develop and design microfabricated Paul traps for manufacture.
• Serve as the technical liaison with ion trap fabrication partners.
• Perform electromagnetic and thermo-mechanical analysis and simulations.
• Work with package designers on packages and assembly procedures.
• Document designs and simulation results.

Requirements

• Experience designing surface ion traps.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills for electromagnetic and/or thermo-mechanical analysis.
• Knowledge of ion motion and shuttling techniques.
• Understanding of ion trap system architecture, design for test and manufacture, and electrical testing methods and equipment.
• Ability to write clear technical documents and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
• PhD or master's degree in physics, electronic engineering, or a related discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience fabricating ion traps and working with commercial foundries.
• Experience designing test harnesses for microfabricated structures.
• Design for manufacture and design for reliability experience.
• Package and assembly design experience.
• Hands-on ion shuttling experience.
• Familiarity with commercial design tools such as Custom Compiler or Virtuoso.
