Senior Engineer, Backend Platform

Location: Redwood Shores, California, USA; hybrid with onsite work three times per week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Candidates must already be based in the Bay Area.

Targeted base salary: $190,000–$260,000 annually in California, plus stock options.

What you will do

• Own one or more backend platform verticals and build customer-facing product features.
• Develop and expand platform capabilities that deliver business value.
• Build microservices using Kubernetes, Kafka, Postgres, gRPC, and related technologies.
• Design and write high-quality, maintainable, testable, and scalable code.
• Establish engineering practices, participate in code reviews, and improve system visibility and traceability with Datadog, Rollbar, and Segment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
• Experience building enterprise software platforms and working with relational and non-relational databases.
• Hands-on architecture design and coding experience.
• Strong proficiency in one or more of Node.js, Java, or Python.
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications in AWS or Google Cloud.

Nice to have

• Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
