Mechanical Technician (Defense)

Location: Austin, TX, United States; hands-on work in the lab and shop environment.

What you will do

• Build and integrate prototype mechanical assemblies from engineering drawings, CAD models, and work instructions.
• Conduct functional and performance testing, collect data, and document results for engineering analysis.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures, identify root causes, and implement fixes with engineers.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment to fabricate, modify, and rework parts.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to improve design for assembly, reliability, and testability.
• Maintain build records, test results, modifications, known issues, and safety and quality standards.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, testing, or hands-on R&D support.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced prototype environment with frequently changing designs.
• Strong attention to detail, diagnostic skills, and curiosity about how systems work and fail.
• Clear communication and collaborative work with engineers, taking ownership of tasks from start to finish.
