TL;DR
Senior Process Development Engineer (Optical Sensors): Developing and scaling prototype assembly processes, fixtures, materials, and optical sensor solutions for advanced semiconductor fabrication with an accent on thermo-mechanical materials integration, process validation, and design for manufacturability. Focus on designing experiments, analyzing process capability, applying quality tools, and transferring prototypes from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.

Location: Richmond, Canada

Salary: CAD 90,000–125,000 per year

What you will do

  • Develop prototype assembly methods and design fixtures for innovative optical sensor solutions.
  • Find, test, and validate thermo-mechanical and optical materials for prototypes and assembly fixtures.
  • Identify and develop new processes, including design of experiments, statistical analysis, and process verification and validation.
  • Design prototype build processes that can scale to pilot and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Apply PFMEA, QCP, MSA, and other quality tools to identify and mitigate product development risks.
  • Collaborate with advanced development, testing, manufacturing, and supply chain teams while creating process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, engineering physics, or an equivalent field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing, fabricating, and testing complex mechanical prototypes and fixtures.
  • Experience with adhesives, ceramics, glasses, metals, polymers, and materials integration processes such as bonding, molding, casting, machining, and etching.
  • Strong DoE planning and execution skills, with experience using statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
  • CAD design and engineering drawing experience using SolidWorks or an equivalent tool.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, QCP, APQP/PPAP, Six Sigma, Lean, process scaling, and technical documentation.

Nice to have

  • Experience with optical system assembly.
  • Lean Six Sigma training or Green Belt/Black Belt certification.
  • P. Eng. designation or eligibility for P. Eng.
