TL;DR
Senior Process Engineer (Automated Optical Inspection): Developing, integrating, and optimizing wafer-scale AOI systems from concept through manufacturing release with an accent on inspection strategy, validation, and system-level integration. Focus on designing experiments, reducing inspection risks, monitoring yield and defect performance, and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.

Location: Tempe, Arizona, United States; onsite 5 days per week

Salary: $103,200–$154,800 USD annually, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

  • Develop, integrate, and optimize wafer-scale Automated Optical Inspection systems from concept through manufacturing transfer.
  • Define inspection strategies, process flows, design rules, and system capabilities aligned with wafer fabrication and product requirements.
  • Lead requirements flow-down, validation deliverables, control strategies, and monitoring methods for inspection sensitivity, defect classification, throughput, and false-call management.
  • Drive risk assessments and risk burn-down using Design for Reliability Manufacturing and data-driven methods.
  • Apply statistical analysis and designed experiments to optimize inspection parameters, monitor yield, detect excursions, and resolve inspection-related issues.
  • Collaborate with process owners, product development teams, equipment suppliers, and manufacturing while maintaining technical and quality documentation.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with complex manufacturing or inspection environments and system-level problem solving.
  • Experience with process validation, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required at the time of hire and throughout employment; sponsorship is not available for roles below Principal level.
  • For bachelor's degrees earned outside the United States, the degree must satisfy 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A).

Nice to have

  • Hands-on AOI experience involving optics, illumination, image acquisition, defect detection, and classification.
  • Design for Reliability Manufacturing, Design for Six Sigma, or Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • DOE, statistical analysis, and data analysis experience with tools such as Minitab, JMP, Python, or SQL.
  • Wafer fab integration, wafer-scale manufacturing, or high-volume production experience.
  • Experience deploying inspection systems through manufacturing transfer and working with equipment vendors and cross-functional engineering teams.
