TL;DR
Fuel Performance Engineer (Nuclear): Analyzing and verifying current and novel fuel designs for advanced fission powerhouses with an accent on multi-physics modeling, finite element simulation, and material analysis. Focus on developing and validating simulation tools, supporting experimental fuel campaigns, and documenting technical analyses for reactor design, fuel fabrication, and licensing teams.

Location: Santa Clara, CA or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to the Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter based on business or team needs, and must work in person at headquarters during the first two weeks of onboarding.

Salary: $120,000–$165,000 per year, dependent on experience.

What you will do

  • Analyze current and novel fuel design performance under expected operating and postulated off-normal conditions.
  • Develop efficient analysis methodologies and modeling and simulation tools.
  • Verify and validate modeling and simulation tools supporting fuel performance analyses.
  • Support experimental fuel campaigns and collaborate with reactor design, fuel fabrication, and licensing teams.
  • Provide technical feedback to design teams and prepare clear, detailed technical reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with multi-physics system performance analyses.
  • Experience with finite element simulation software such as Ansys or Abaqus.
  • Experience with material analysis.
  • Experience with an object-oriented programming language such as Python or C++.
  • Clear communication, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to solve open-ended technical problems independently.

Nice to have

  • Experience with nuclear fuel performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with metallic fuels.
  • Experience with fuel analysis and fuel performance software such as BISON or LIFE-METAL.
  • Experience in material selection and material analysis.
  • Fluency in Python.
