Location: Hybrid in Durham, NC or Sunnyvale, CA

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate software systems for automated laboratory environments.
• Develop laboratory workflow orchestration, LIMS, quality decision systems, and laboratory visibility tools.
• Build resilient distributed systems that interact with physical laboratory equipment and support high-volume sample processing.
• Design graceful failure recovery, software-only disaster recovery, and systems suitable for continuous 24-hour laboratory operations.
• Collaborate with laboratory operators, scientists, automation engineers, and software engineers to translate complex workflows into reliable software.
• Provide technical leadership, shape architecture, and lead significant initiatives across systems and teams.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience designing and operating distributed systems.
• Production software development experience with Python, Go, or other modern programming languages.
• Full-stack development experience with React and TypeScript.
• Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS and deploying with Kubernetes.
• Experience developing REST and/or gRPC APIs, with strong knowledge of testing, observability, and operational ownership.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, structured logging, and on-call ownership, plus strong cross-functional communication skills.
