Senior Physicist, System Operations

What you will do

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and optimise trapped-ion quantum computing systems.
• Build and maintain observability and automation to support high uptime.
• Perform regular and emergency hardware maintenance on quantum systems.
• Interpret telemetry data to diagnose system status and understand hardware behaviour.
• Participate in a 24/7 follow-the-sun on-call rotation.
• Collaborate across teams and time zones, including coordinating customer system access and status updates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, engineering, or another physical science.
• Hands-on laboratory experience in atomic or optical physics, ideally with optical benches, precision alignment, laser frequency stabilisation, and optical modulators.
• Experience with statistics, telemetry, or data analysis.
• Programming experience in Rust or Python, software engineering, or RF, analog, or digital electronics in precision control systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a distributed team.
• Flexibility to work changing hours as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation and adapt to a fast-moving technical environment.
