Staff Quantum Applications Scientist (Life Sciences)

Location: Onsite and/or hybrid from the hirify.global office in Gothenburg, Sweden or Toronto, Canada. The role includes 10% domestic and international travel, with potential customer visits, international travel, and onsite co-location.

What you will do

• Originate and lead hybrid quantum applications, algorithms, and solutions for life sciences.
• Collaborate with compiler, cloud, and hardware engineering teams to optimize workflows for trapped-ion quantum computers.
• Evaluate classical and quantum algorithms, including their scaling behavior, trade-offs, and crossover points.
• Work directly with client teams to define and solve real-world problems using hirify.global quantum computers.
• Present technical solutions to clients and stakeholders, adapting content to different audiences.
• Build reusable software platforms and integrate quantum algorithms into end-to-end workflows.

Requirements

• Doctorate in life sciences or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 3 years of professional experience developing and applying computational and ML/AI tools in bioinformatics, molecular biology, or advanced therapeutics.
• Peer-reviewed publications and contributions to software codebases.
• At least 3 years of professional experience developing, applying, and validating quantum computing algorithms and solutions in life sciences.
• Experience prototyping with Python and quantum SDKs such as Qiskit, PennyLane, or Cirq.
• Ability to work with customers across time zones and work schedules, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Expertise in linear algebra, matrix decompositions, probability theory, symmetry, and computational complexity.
• Experience defining and delivering technical solutions directly with clients.
