TL;DR
Principal Quantum Compiler Engineer (Quantum Computing): Architecting and developing compiler technologies that translate quantum applications into hardware-specific instructions for trapped-ion quantum computers with an accent on compiler architecture, quantum circuit optimization, and fault-tolerant systems. Focus on designing front-end and back-end compiler infrastructure, solving complex routing and optimization problems, and shaping scalable compilation strategies for next-generation quantum hardware.

Location: Hybrid in Broomfield, Colorado, United States. Candidates must be U.S. Persons; due to national security requirements, People's Republic of China or Russian nationals are ineligible unless they are also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $210,000–$270,000 annually, inclusive of the bonus target.

What you will do

  • Set the strategic vision for compiler architecture and implementation targeting advanced quantum computing capabilities.
  • Architect and develop compiler front-end, back-end, and optimization technologies for quantum languages, machine-specific targets, and classical and quantum operations.
  • Design and evaluate routing, circuit optimization, and other algorithmic solutions for complex quantum compilation problems.
  • Collaborate with physicists, quantum error correction experts, engineers, researchers, industry leaders, and standards organizations.
  • Mentor compiler engineers, develop technical leadership, and champion code quality and engineering excellence.
  • Shape compiler strategies for executing fault-tolerant quantum programs at scale.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree minimum.
  • At least 8 years of industry or post-graduate experience in engineering, laboratory, or R&D environments.
  • At least 8 years of hands-on experience developing compiler infrastructure and technologies.
  • Must be a U.S. Person: a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or a worker granted asylum or refugee status.
  • People's Republic of China or Russian nationals are not eligible unless they are also U.S. citizens.
  • Strong compiler architecture and design expertise, including experience with LLVM or comparable frameworks, optimization algorithms, software testing, and deployment tools.

Nice to have

  • PhD or equivalent demonstrated experience in compiler research and development.
  • Experience with Rust, MLIR, high-level intermediate representations, and fault-tolerant quantum computation.
  • Technical leadership experience in academic or industry R&D compiler teams.
  • Open-source or commercial project contributions.
  • Experience with tree, graph, SAT, machine learning, application-specific, and heuristic algorithms.
